Parents Information Night
So I had my parents night last night and I was incredibly nervous ...over nothing!! They were so nice and because I have first class were only concerned about how the homework was working out for this year. So I decided to put a blog post together on some tips and hints to help you get through the night :)
My Powerpoint slides were laid out as follows;
1) Title slide
2) Layout of the nights events
3) Curriculum subjects: What the curriculum covers
4) Curriculum empasis: Here I discussed group work, literacy and numeracy, assesment, ICT, languages, hands-on activties
5) What we learn in first class: A breakdown of programmes used for each subject
6) Sample timetable
7) Homework
8) Discipline Code
9) Examples of homework
10) ICT
11) Sports Training
12) Additional information: Label everything, not to bring in toys, make sure your child has his/her name on everything.
13) Questions and Answers session
I also had a pen in my hand to stop myself fidgeting with them. There was as much info as possible in the slides so I was just basically reading of them. Also I had post-its beside me of anything I needed to elaborate on.
I would advise to prepare some answers for questions such as 'How do I help my child with reading/phonics/maths/Gaeilge at home".
It really is a whole load of worry over nothing, parents are usually lovely and are there to learn from you so try not to find it too daunting! Good luck everyone :)
